Yeah the lights are fuckin sweet, but alas, i am talking about the duo made up of Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) and Boom Bip, hailing from Wales and LA respectively.
Covering genres across electronica, hip hop, experimental, indie and alternative to name some, their experience, history and creativity speaks for itself. No, they’re not the next big thing and won’t bring you to your knees but what they bring to the table is still pretty rad factor. For example, the premise behind their recent work and upcoming album “Stainless Style” revolves around the car manufacturer John De Lorean, who was one to live life, pardon the unintentional pun, in the fast lane. Beginning with Packard Motors, on to General Motors working within the Pontiac and Chevrolet divisions, De Lorean wanted more and went on to create his own company by borrowing millions from the government to pursue his dream and eventuating with “The De Lorean Motor Company” or DMC.
His 2 seater sports car prototype, originating as the DSV entered production under the name DMC-12, but was more generally known simply as the “De Lorean” with it’s body mainly composing of stainless steel, so i guess it’s apparent where the insipration for the album name came from. Anyway why the SHIT am i talking about this guy and his cars right? Well that nifty DMC-12 just happens to be the beautiful piece of sex most of us know as the “back to the future” car. That’s right the time traveling vessel we all know from that movie was designed as a real car for genuine production by this man, so how’s that for a whole bunch of awesome?
Apart from being worth millions and making his own cars and all that, he was also a cocaine dealer…
…just thought you might wanna know. Yeah…
I’m expecting somewhat of a different edge on Neon Neon’s album in comparison to what electronica has provided for us over the past few months. It seems promising too with what i’ve heard so far, and with things being said like “De Lorean was an icon for that era, which was all about girls and cars. He designed the perfect car for men who were having a mid-life crisis. The concept is fairly loose, but all the songs on the album are related to his life. That said, I think every song can stand up on its own.” Boom Bip has seemingly assured me that i’ll receive exactly that. Featuring guests such as Spank Rock and Har Mar Superstar, anticipation is decently high.
Set to drop on March 18th worldwide. Checkyourself yo.
